The Plan

"I’ve been painting pictures of Egypt // Leaving out what it lacked  //
The future seems so hard and I want to go back.
But the places that used to fit me // Cannot hold the things I've learned
And those roads were closed off to me while my back was turned"
-- Sara Groves, "Painting Pictures of Egypt"

A little bit about the "plan" I'm on.     It's called the "healthy lifestyle" plan.     It's where I make healthy choices about the non-processed food I eat and choose to move my body such that the calories I burn are greater than calories I consume.

I know, it sounds really complicated, huh?     Actually, it's so simple that it's borderline ridiculous.    What makes it complicated is my brain and the thoughts and choices that I've been used to living with all my life.

So in actuality my "healthy lifestyle" plan is not really a plan - it's a way of life.    My goal is to seek to make this how I live my life....the same way that eating poorly and not exercising was a way of life for me before.     Have I achieved that goal?   Not yet.   Will it be easy?   It hasn't been.   Will it be rewarding?   I'm betting my life on it.

For this season of my healthy lifestyle plan - my goal is to lose weight.   One of the pastors at my church always tells us what his mama told him, "If you aim at nothing, you'll hit it every time".    In other words, have a plan.

This is mine.

Don't you know?

You don't tug on Superman's cape,
you don't spit into the wind,
you don't pull the mask
off that ol' Lone Ranger and you
don't mess around with Jim

-- Jim Croce, 1972
